I'm a Shark Pre-consumer recycled glass on wood with grey concrete. March 2014 Approx. 8" x 8"   This isn't just the first shark I made, it's also the first time I made extensive use of cut tiles. Prior to this piece I had made only one where any of the tiles were cut, and with that one it was more of an experiment. With this guy I went all-out. You'll notice the tiles that make up his body are sort-of rounded squares. Well, the water, sky, and clouds are the same tiles but cut sideways. This helps distinguish the shark from the background. It is hard to see in this picture, but I also made the waves at the bottom in front of the shark elevated so that they splash in front of him, so he is really popping out of the water. The background ocean, clouds, and sky are lower than the shark's body so they appear behind him. I felt really good about this piece when I completed it, and I still feel happy about it now.
